Purpose of the programme

This Poverty Relief Programme will empower the youth to foster self-reliance and become self-sustainable.

• To empower unemployed young people with social, vocational and entrepreneurial skills.  
• To provide unemployed young people with long term skills in capacity building, economic empowerment and vocational skills.
• To contribute to the economic empowerment of youth at risk, through job counseling, vocational, entrepreneurial and life skills training; job placements and practical job training opportunities.
• To improve skills development amongst the youth so as to increase their employability and participation in the formal economy.

SERVICES INCLUDE:

1.  ADVICE AND REFERAL 

To give advice and to act as a referral agent for community members in our areas of operation.

2.  SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME 

To provide young people (18 – 34 years) with Social Assistance to enhance their social well being

3.  SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

To provide young people (18 – 34 years) with Skills such as Computer Literacy, Job-& Life skills, over a period of one-year to increase independence and improve their chances of being absorbed in the labour market.  Other skills training include Call centre, Upholstery and Electrical House wiring.

4.  SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD

To provide young people (18 – 34 years) with Sustainable Livelihood, in the form of an Entrepreneurial course, over a period of one-year to increase independence and to escape a cycle of poverty

 

    Programme Details

ADVICE AND REFERAL	Advice & refer community members without an Identity document or birth certificate to the Department of Home Affairs To follow up on these referrals. To give information to community members about social grants. To refer community members in need of social grants to SASSA. For applications of social grants. To refer community members to the Department of Trade & Industry to link them with their SMME capacity development programme. To follow up on these referrals Provide people access to daily newspapers, to search for vacancies. Employment assistance programme Career self assessment CV Writing Access to newspapers E-mail / faxing application learnership placement Seek learnership placement at private sector for trained young people. Learners receive a stipend at the placement agent
SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME	1 To provide a meal for participants in our programme 2. To provide transport for the youth to attend the programme
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT	1. Provide Computer training to  students  Introduction to computers  Microsoft Word  Microsoft Excel  Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Access Internet & E-mail 2. Train students in Life & Job hunting skills : * Facilitate Life skills in: - Building self-esteem/self image - Problem solving - Communication - Conflict resolution - Resilience - Health & sexuality - Leadership - The Way Forward Job hunting Responding to a job advertisement The Job interview How to survive when out of employment Unemployment insurance fund The right and responsibilities of management & worker How to keep the job OTHER SKILLS TRAINING Call Centre Electrical Housewiring Upholstery
SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD	1.Train student in a  Entrepreneurial Course   Market Investigation Using a Calculator Buying Costing & Pricing Selling Business Plan Money Management Stock Control Register students company as a Close Corporation   To provide starter packs to young people to kick-start their businesses
